This year the spelling in 5th grade is considered independent work.Students are given options for homework as presented below.All homework is given 2 points with the exception of the 4th night.The fourth night is a graded assignment that will encompass grammar skills instructed throughout the year.Each story will have one graded assignment with points varying.The paper will be given in advance so that students may have opportunity to work on the assignment a little at a time.You may look over the assignment with your child.
If a pretest is given, students that receive 100% on the first 20 words will be exempt from assignment nights 1- 3 as well as the test day.If you go to the wiki page you will be able to access the spelling site link by clicking on the specific link high lighted in blue.
1st night – Receive the list and write them in their binder 3 x (2 times in print and at least 1 time in cursive) If the pretest was given, they will only write the missed words 3 x each.
2nd night – puzzlemaker.comcriss cross puzzle made and solved, or
If you do not have computer access, the student will complete the first 2 pages of the spelling pages related to the spelling list given.
3rd night – puzzlemaker.com word searchorhttp://tools.atozteacherstuff.com/word-search-maker/wordsearch.php which creates a word search for you with the words on the side of the puzzle.The puzzle can be made into shapes too.If you do not have computer access students will complete the last three pages of the section.The top paragraph is the only part to be completed on the proofreading page.
